Finding Bugs

bug.png At the OSL we strive to make the highest quality products possible. To do that, we need your help. If you think you've found a bug in one of our projects please follow the following steps to help us eliminate it:
  • Verify: Verify that what you're experiencing is a bug and not an environment or user error.
  • Report: Report the bug here
    1. Make an account by clicking the the Signup link.
    2. Click on the project your bug report pertains to.
    3. Click on the Create New Issue link on the top navigation bar.
    4. Include all relevant information you have related to the bug.
    5. If you wish, you could opt to contribute to the project and attach your own patch to fix the bug to be reviewed.

What is relevant information?

  • Environment Information: Information on what the project is running on. This would be information such as what version of Java you're using on a Java application, or what version of Apache you're using for a web application. And, of course, the version of project you're running. If the application makes use of it, it's probably a good idea to list.
  • Steps to Reproduce: What steps lead to the discovery of this bug/What steps cause this bug to manifest.
  • Symptoms: Essentially, what IS the bug. What's happening that shouldn't be? If we don't know what the problem is, we can't guarantee we can fix it.
  • Severity: Though every bug is something that must be fixed, certain bugs might be more serious than others and require more immediate attention. If the bug is absolutely stopping you from using the project, make sure you set the priority when reporting higher than you would if, what say, you found a typo in text.
